19 “The Law Was Our Schoolmaster”
Obedience from the Inside Out
“Character development is the most important work ever entrusted to human beings.”
— Education, p. 225
Welcome to Lesson 19 in your From Glory to Glory journey. In this eye-opening session, Pastor Stephen Wallace challenges us to go beyond outward obedience and confront the deeper battle—what takes place in the heart and mind. This lesson reveals the spiritual nature of God’s law and warns against the deception of external religion that masks internal rebellion.
True obedience isn’t measured by behavior alone, but by motives, thoughts, and desires. Christ’s call is clear: obedience begins in the heart. Anger, lust, pride—even if hidden—are just as real as external sins. And unless we invite God to transform our minds, we may appear righteous while remaining self-deceived.
But there is hope: God offers not just forgiveness, but a new heart. If we recognize our need, ask, and surrender, He will write His law in our innermost being and empower us to bring every thought captive to Christ.
