As related to the first Adam, men receive from him nothing but guilt and the sentence of death.

Gen 3:16–19

16) To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”

17) Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life.

18) Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field.

19) In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”

Rom 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Gal 5:16, 17

16) I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

17) For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

The lower passions have their seat in the body and work through it. The words “flesh” or “fleshly” or “carnal lusts” embrace the lower, corrupt nature; the flesh of itself cannot act contrary to the will of God.

Phil 3:21 (KJV)

Who shall change our vile body that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body…

1 Cor 15:31

I affirm, by the boasting in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

AA 476, 477

But because this experience is his, the Christian is not therefore to fold his hands, content with that which has been accomplished for him. He who has determined to enter the spiritual kingdom will find that all the powers and passions of unregenerate nature, backed by the forces of the kingdom of darkness, are arrayed against him. Each day he must renew his consecration, each day do battle with evil. Old habits, hereditary tendencies to wrong, will strive for the mastery, and against these he is to be ever on guard, striving in Christ’s strength for victory.

Joshua 24:15

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

James 1:14, 15

14) But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

15) Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

Rom 7:1–6

1) Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law* has dominion over a man as long as he lives? (*see Gen 3:16)

2) For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.

3) So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man.

4) Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another, even to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.

5) For when we were in the flesh, the passions of sins which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.

6) But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

Romans 6:12

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

1 Tim 6:12

The truth is to take possession of the will…

John 15:16

You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

Hosea 2:19, 20

19) “I will betroth you to Me forever; yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in loving-kindness and mercy;

20) I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know the LORD.”
