James 2:17

Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Gen 4:1

Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have gotten a man from the LORD.”

PP 82

For nearly a thousand years Adam lived among men, a witness to the results of sin. Faithfully he sought to stem the tide of evil. He had been commanded to instruct his posterity in the way of the Lord; and he carefully treasured what God had revealed to him, and repeated it to succeeding generations. To his children and children’s children, to the ninth generation, he described man’s holy and happy estate in Paradise, and repeated the history of his fall, telling them of the sufferings by which God had taught him the necessity of strict adherence to His law, and explaining to them the merciful provisions for their salvation. Yet there were but few who gave heed to his words. Often he was met with bitter reproaches for the sin that had brought such woe upon his posterity.

Rom 10:10, 17

10) For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.

17) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Gen 3:7

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

Gen 3:10

So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

Gen 3:21

Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.

Gen 2:17

“but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Gen 3:19

“…for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”

Eph 2:1  (KJV)

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins

2 Peter 3:8

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Why was not the death penalty enforced at once in his [Adam’s] case? Because a ransom was found.

6BC 1070

In the councils of heaven, before the world was created, the Father and the Son covenanted together that if man proved disloyal to God, Christ, one with the Father, would take the place of the transgressor, and suffer the penalty of justice that must fall upon him (MS 145, 1897).

1BC 1085

The instant man accepted the temptations of Satan, and did the very things God had said he should not do, Christ, the Son of God, stood between the living and the dead, saying, “Let the punishment fall on Me. I will stand in man’s place. He shall have another chance” (Letter 22, Feb. 13, 1900).

Rev 13:8

And all who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

1BC 1086

A plan was devised that the sentence of death should rest upon a substitute. In the plan of redemption there must be the shedding of blood, for death must come in consequence of man’s sin. The beasts for sacrificial offerings were to prefigure Christ. In the slain victim, man was to see the fulfillment for the time being of God’s word, “Ye shall surely die”

1BC 1104

Christ, in counsel with His Father, instituted the system of sacrificial offerings; that death, instead of being immediately visited upon the transgressor, should be transferred to a victim which should prefigure the great and perfect offering of the son of God

1Pet 1:19

but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Ephesians 1:6

to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved.

Isaiah 61:10

I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness…

SC 62

It was possible for Adam, before the fall, to form a righteous character by obedience to God’s law. But he failed to do this, and because of his sin our natures are fallen and we cannot make ourselves righteous. Since we are sinful, unholy, we cannot perfectly obey the holy law.

SC 62

The condition of eternal life is now just what it always has been,—just what it was in Paradise before the fall of our first parents,—perfect obedience to the law of God, perfect righteousness.

1SM 396

By His perfect obedience He has satisfied the claims of the law, and my only hope is found in looking to Him as my substitute and surety, who obeyed the law perfectly for me. By faith in His merits I am free from the condemnation of the law. He clothes me with His righteousness, which answers all the demands of the law. I am complete in Him who brings in everlasting righteousness.

John 8:11

She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

Lev 11:44

For I am the LORD your God. You shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy.

COL 316

The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin.

Jer 23:6

In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely; now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Matthew 6:24  (KJV)

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.

Phil 3:12

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

SL 81

But he who is truly seeking for holiness of heart and life delights in the law of God, and mourns only that he falls so far short of meeting its requirements.

3SM 195, 196

Jesus loves His children, even if they err. They belong to Jesus and we are to treat them as the purchase of the blood of Jesus Christ. Any unreasonable course pursued toward them is written in the books as against Jesus Christ. He keeps His eye upon them, and when they do their best, calling upon God for his help, be assured the service will be accepted, although imperfect. Jesus is perfect. Christ’s righteousness is imputed unto them, and He will say, “Take away the filthy garments from him and clothe him with change of raiment.” Jesus makes up for our unavoidable deficiencies.
